Hello, I am wondering, I have limewire pro 5.3.6, I download torrents every once in a while and I get a 5-8 kbps speed, is there any way to fix this, any settings in the program, I am using SBC internet services and linked to my router using 802.11G, my internet connection speed (as reported by speedtest.net) is 1.19mbps (Through CNET'S test it says 768kbps) I also have 88% packet loss (pingtest.net) any way to fix that? free? any help would be appreciated!!!
Actually As of Today Limewire is Not illegal to use.... yes they are being Sued by the RIAA in american but the software is still legal.
The answer to your question Could be 1 of 3 things:
First remember that downloading from Limewire your downloading from some one elses computer this means that your rate of download is only as fast as The Rate of the upload speed on that users computer..
Limewire does not have a Server.. This is why it's called P2P... Person 2 person.
Which is one of the reasons why Them being sued is retarded. I gonna guess that limewire will Win.. Cause People "elect' to download music they aren't being forced in any way to dowdownload limewire pro 5.3.6 freenload Copywrited music..
2. Your packet loss sounds like the Lines in your home are degrading....Mainly Line interference..
This can be resolved by Macking sure that you have the Line Filters on Every Phone Outlet Regardless of if a phone is actually connected to it. Also This dependant on if your using Copper wiring or old school Braided... Copper works much better.
3. Your reported Speed test Troubles me.. I'd strongly Suggest Checking into your SBC and seeing how much your paying for the speed your getting and what speed you should be getting.
If your using DSL and your paying for 1.5mbps a sec then your doing alright however if your suppose to be getting 3Mbs your getting owned on your speed.
*Ouch*. An 88% packet loss means over three-quarters of the data sent or received by your computer is lost and has to be re-transmitted - and with a rate like that, probably re-transmitted several times.
You DEFINITELY want to contact your provider about this, but of course, don't mention Limewire or torrents otherwise they won't help you; Just tell them that the line quality or signal qualidownload limewire pro 5.3.6 freety is bad and that you're getting a high packet loss.
Also, try not using those for a little while and see if they're affecting your connection - sometimes, ISPs do on PURPOSE to degrade connections when they detect activity they don't want to see (e.g. Bell, Rogers, and I hear several US providers will throttle connections when torrents are active).

Limewire is illegal so anyone can get into your computer and you would have to get a virus protection like Macafee.
